Sunbirds Daily Routine

Sunbirds Daily Routine

The children arrive in class and they check their visual timetable with what to do next.

Each child sits at a table and completes an activity either a puzzle or construction.

The children then check their timetable to play outside in the large yard which means the children can have a really good run around and climb and mix with children from other classes.

If it is raining then the children will stay  in our class outdoor area that we call the garden. Here there are activities that each of the children can access. We use this time for teaching and extending play skills and developing the children’s  communication/language skills.

We then have a communication session as a group. We say hello to each other and think about our feelings for that day and then together we decide the date. We have a sensory weather song and we talk about the weather. This we follow with the sensory story. It is  ‘Over in the Meadow’ by Barefoot singalong stories on Youtube for Autumn 1. The children enjoy engaging with the props as they find the the story character or predict what comes next.

Snack is a wonderful time to do some more communication. The children all have a PECS book or a communication board to help them make their choices and to encourage their communication.

This sit down communication time is followed by an active outside play time.

Our morning timetable may offer Squirrel Woods or Swings, Shadow Dance with ( a specialist Dance teacher) or we use the time for the children to access their work box activities.

We sit down for dinner together in the classroom at 12:30pm  and then follows another short play out in the big yard with access to bikes and the huge climbing frame and covered tunnel slide.

The afternoon begins with a story session and songs. Then follows a creative activity. During  the afternoon session the children will work on their individual work box activities too with an adult. The children have access to the  to the outside garden too.

The day finishes with a last play out before buses and hometime with some quiet songs on the board.
