Poppy! Poppy! What do you say?
This term in Wren Class we have been Celebrating and remembering some people who lived a long time ago. We have been saying thankyou to the soldiers who have helped us to be safe and to live the way we do today. We do not want to forget the great things that these people did in the past, so we say thank you each year 'lest we forget' them. Each year we try to remember the lessons that they taught us about being kind and living peacefuly.
The week before Rememberance (Poppy) Day on (Novemeber 11th) which falls on Saturday this year, we took part in a range of activities focused on the symbol of the poppy. We spoke about how the symbol of the poppy helps us to remember the soldiers that fought in wars and how symbols or personal treasures can remind us of things that mean something to us from the past. For example Patrick shared his holiday souveniers with us and told us all about his fabulous holiday and where abouts in the world he had been. We recreated the poppy symbol in lots of different ways. We made poppy pizzas, poppy paintings and some poppy craft work. We listened to a poem about rememberance day and laid the wreath that we had made at a cenotaph. On the journey there we counted all the poppies we saw along the way.
We enjoyed practising our lifeskills while making Poppy Pizzas
We were super proud of the poppies we made. We took our wreath made out of poppies to the Cenotaph.
On Friday we went to a local cenotaph and laid the wreath we had created, we shouted out loud and clear 'we will never forget'!
